Don Protasio started showcasing his collection for Philippine Fashion Week since 2007. For this season, his collection is based on the idea of supernatural powers. “I wanted to create a collection that is moody. Possibly for somebody who weilds the power of controlling the weather. Possibly for someone who is a warlock or a witch but in a modern way. The mood was all about darkness, power, harnessing the inner strength we all have. I was listening to royskopp’s ‘what else is there?’ (the music i used for the presentation) and there was a line in the song, ‘I am the storm, I am the wonder’ and it basically sum up what I wanted to say.”
It took him a month, whole of April, to finish the production of his collection. “I had production problems with the shoes because I got the measurements late for the models. Some of the fabrics I used ran out so I had to find another alternative rather than order and wait for shipment.”
Don shared that he has really matured in the way he works. It is automatic for him to move on to the next season after the show. Right now, he is in the processs of researching for his next collection, s/s 2010. He has already pegs, samples and fabrics to be used.
Don is based in Cambodia. He has a store there where international buyers can preview and order pieces for the next season. “It is also very important to do quick collections because international buyers give only a month for production when they order for pre-collections.”
