For the last three weeks, StyleAnywhere delved into the background of young designer Mike Lavarez. His collections, Eigengrau and Sa wat dee were also in the spotlight. He also talked about his liking for music. In January’s Artist of the Month finale post, Mike disclose his favorite designers and shares his future plans.
For this third installment featuring January’s artist of the month, Mike Lavarez talks briefly about I Love You Store and shares his liking for music.
StyleAnywhere : How were you introduce to I Love You Store?
Mike Lavarez : I was introduced to the I Love You girls (Corinne Ching, Sharon Atillo and Mimi Sanson) 6 years ago by Geoff Gonzales. It was not by coincidence. He invited me to join because at that time I was really searching for personal growth. After a year training as intern, Mimi encouraged me to create labels under our own names and to start making clothes for the store.
In the first post on January’s artist of the month, Mike’s background on designing and his Eigengrau collection were on the spotlight. For this sequel, let us take a look at his Sa wat dee collection: the inspiration and process behind it.

StyleAnywhere : What is Sa wat dee?
Mike Lavarez : Sa wat dee is Thai’s polite greeting when meeting and farewell when parting.
StyleAnywhere : What is your inspiration for this collection?
Mike Lavarez : The collection was inspired by a recent Asian trip. In particular, I was inspired by the distinct oriental visuals the trip had to offer.
January’s artist of the month is a 22-year old fashion designer. He has been designing clothes for 6 years. For this post, let us know more about his background in fashion and peek at one of his collections called Eigengrau.
StyleAnywhere : What course did you take in college and from what school?
Mike Lavarez : I hold a certificate degree in Fine Arts majoring in Visual Communications at the University of the Philippines, Diliman. It’s an advertising course.
